Methodology / Lesson Plan:
|
The teacher / student lays out the SSPS symbols,
ideally clearly saying its name as the symbol is placed down;
depending
on available resources, this may require drawing the symbols on a
whiteboard, prearranging the cards / blocks so they can be laid out in
the correct configuration, or using the online lessons) in the
prescribed groupings;
The teacher / student points to and speaks the name of each symbol ,
speaking each sound and briefly explaining the groupings each time a new
grouping is encountered (vowels, voiced, unvoiced etc. across).
If in a classroom situation this should be repeated with students
speaking each sound after the teacher / student.
Some explanation (with spoken examples is ) is given about the
difference between:
- Vowels and Consonants
- vowel: "a sound that you make when you speak without closing your mouth or throat; open sound."
- consonant: "[a sound made with] complete or partial closure of the upper vocal tract, ... above the larynx."
- voiced / unvoiced consonant sets
- consonant sound pairs which are identical except that one has a pitch (or 'voice') eg. b & p
- voiced consonants
- consonant sounds which only occur in voiced form (eg. l, m, n)
- unvoiced consonants
- consonant sounds which only occur in unvoiced form (eg. h)
- space
